Dr. Merel Langelaar has been working since 2012 as a coordinating specialist senior inspector at the Health Care Inspectorate (IGZ), specializing in infectious diseases, infection prevention and antibiotic resistance. In healthcare, compared to most other industries, more vulnerable groups are highly susceptible to all kinds of infections, so proper cleaning and disinfection is of great importance in this industry.
During the Hygiene Forum 2017, she spoke about patient safety with regard to proper cleaning and disinfection from the role of the Health Care Inspectorate. Attention is also paid to the importance of good infection prevention for the well-being of the patient and the enormous cost savings that this entails for society.
